1:4Knowing，brethrenbeloved，yourelectionofGod.

1:5Forourgospelcamenotuntoyouinwordonly，butalsoinpower，andintheHolyGhost，andinmuchassurance;asyeknowwhatmannerofmenwewereamongyouforyoursake.

1:6Andyebecamefollowersofus，andoftheLord，havingreceivedthewordinmuchaffliction，withjoyoftheHolyGhost.

1:7SothatyewereensamplestoallthatbelieveinMacedoniaandAchaia.

1:8ForfromyousoundedoutthewordoftheLordnotonlyinMacedoniaandAchaia，butalsoineveryplaceyourfaithtoGod-wardisspreadabroad;sothatweneednottospeakanything.

1:9Fortheythemselvesshewofuswhatmannerofenteringinwehaduntoyou，andhowyeturnedtoGodfromidolstoservethelivingandtrueGod;

1:10AndtowaitforhisSonfromheaven，whomheraisedfromthedead，evenJesus，whichdeliveredusfromthewrathtoe.

2:1Foryourselves，brethren，knowourentranceinuntoyou，thatitwasnotinvain:

2:2Butevenafterthatwehadsufferedbefore，andwereshamefullyentreated，asyeknow，atPhilippi，wewereboldinourGodtospeakuntoyouthegospelofGodwithmuchcontention.

2:3Forourexhortationwasnotofdeceit，norofuncleanness，noringuile:

2:4ButaswewereallowedofGodtobeputintrustwiththegospel，evensowespeak;notaspleasingmen，butGod，whichtriethourhearts.

2:5Forneitheratanytimeusedweflatteringwords，asyeknow，noraclokeofcovetousness;Godiswitness:

2:6Norofmensoughtweglory，neitherofyou，noryetofothers，whenwemighthavebeenburdensome，asthetlesofChrist.

2:7Butweweregentleamongyou，evenasanursecherishethherchildren:

2:8Sobeingaffectionatelydesirousofyou，wewerewillingtohaveimparteduntoyou，notthegospelofGodonly，butalsoourownsouls，becauseyeweredearuntous.

2:9Foryeremember，brethren，ourlabourandtravail:forlabouringnightandday，becausewewouldnotbechargeableuntoanyofyou，wepreacheduntoyouthegospelofGod.

2:10Yearewitnesses，andGodalso，howholilyandjustlyandunblameablywebehavedourselvesamongyouthatbelieve:

2:11Asyeknowhowweexhortedandfortedandchargedeveryoneofyou，asafatherdothhischildren，

2:12ThatyewouldwalkworthyofGod，whohathcalledyouuntohiskingdomandglory.

2:13ForthiscausealsothankweGodwithoutceasing，because，whenyereceivedthewordofGodwhichyeheardofus，yereceiveditnotasthewordofmen，butasitisintruth，thewordofGod，whicheffectuallyworkethalsoinyouthatbelieve.

2:14Forye，brethren，becamefollowersofthechurchesofGodwhichinJudaeaareinChristJesus:foryealsohavesufferedlikethingsofyourowncountrymen，evenastheyhaveoftheJews:

2:15WhobothkilledtheLordJesus，andtheirownprophets，andhavepersecutedus;andtheypleasenotGod，andarecontrarytoallmen:

2:16ForbiddingustospeaktotheGentilesthattheymightbesaved，tofilluptheirsinsalway:forthewrathiseuponthemtotheuttermost.

2:17Butwe，brethren，beingtakenfromyouforashorttimeinpresence，notinheart，endeavouredthemoreabundantlytoseeyourfacewithgreatdesire.

2:18Whereforewewouldhaveeuntoyou，evenIPaul，onceandagain;butSatanhinderedus.

2:19Forwhatisourhope，orjoy，orcrownofrejoicing?ArenotevenyeinthepresenceofourLordJesusChristathising?
